As a full time college student, I also work two part time jobs. I work almost twenty hours a week off campus at Tena’s Gymnastics and Cheerleading Inc. At Tena’s I coach both cheerleading and gymnastics. I also coach private lessons there as well. I work there Monday through Friday and every night I am reminded why I am a coach. After being a gymnast for 13 years and a cheerleader for 6, nothing gives me great joy then teaching little ones my love for these sports. Each day brings new challenges and learning opportunities for me as a coach but I take them all in to better my coaching abilities for my kids.
Chicken spaghetti night occurred last night in 210C of the University Commons. That just so happens to be my apartment. I’ve been having a difficult week and so three of my closest girlfriends came over to spend time with me. I was in the middle of making dinner when they all came over so I cooked for us girls. I made chicken spaghetti, a recipe that my mom passed down to me since it was one of her favorites. It is a very simple recipe that has a delicious flavor. One of my mom’s favorite things to do is to find new recipes on Pinterest to try for our family and from there we build our recipes up.
Homecoming week has finally arrived for the students at Arkansas Tech. The Student Activities Board chose to help the students get excited about the week by holding the annual Homecoming Pep Rally this Monday night at Thone Stadium. The homecoming pep rally consisted of the band playing, cheerleaders performing, dancers performing, student body engagement, and even relay races for prizes. At the end, of course the best part of the pep rally was the amazing firework show from behind the away team’s bleachers. It was a blast, they played music the entire time while the fireworks were shooting. This was definitely my favorite part of the pep rally.
On October 17 the country star, Justin Moore, came back to his hometown in Little Rock, Arkansas to perform the night before the Arkansas Razorbacks played the Georgia Bulldogs. The Fayetteville band, Back Road Anthem opened up for Justin Moore. This was one of the most fun and exciting concerts I have ever been too. Back Road Anthem and of course Justin Moore had outstanding performances. I grew up listening to country music and it couldn’t have been a more perfect night in 65 degree weather and cowgirl boots. There were so many people out and everyone was there to support both Justin Moore and the team we all love, the Hogs.
Finally, my favorite time of the year has arrived! It is finally beginning to feel like fall! The best season of the year, where I can wear a long sleeve shirt and shorts, where the boots and cardigans are brought out, and football is the popular sport. The leaves begin to change and Arkansas Tech turns into a more beautiful campus. As I walk through campus with all the trees I love the feeling of leaves falling off the trees as I walk around. It’s nearly impossible to be in a bad mood when it is 70 degrees during the day and 50 degrees during the night. Nights like those call for bonfires and great times with friends, making memories.
On October 23, 2014 it was official Jerry Day at Arkansas Tech University. October 23rd marked a year that Arkansas Tech has brought Jerry the Bulldog back as our Campus Ambassador. Jerry spent his day outside of Baswell Techionery for all students to stop by and get their picture taken with the adorable bulldog. The students and faculty of Arkansas Tech absolutely adore our precious campus ambassador. Jerry now plays a huge impact in everyday Arkansas Tech campus events and athletic events. He may have came to us tiny and innocent but now he stands strong and proud as a new face for Arkansas Tech.
What all do you need other than friends and a golf course on a beautiful day. The Links in Conway is a challenging yet fun golf course for residents and friends to enjoy the beautiful weather. My first job when I was 16 was at Blessings Golf course working in the golf shop and the men in my family have always enjoyed golf. Therefore, for me it’s a relaxing and fun time to go out on the golf course with friends to hit around and play. I am not very good at golf but I do enjoy the time I get to spend with my friends who like it for fun like I do.
According to an article written in the New York Times back in 2012, the president has no role in the prices of gasoline in the United States. In actuality it is us as the people that determine the price of gasoline. The reasoning behind this is that gasoline is in a global market. As Americans we are all part of the large consumption of gas yet we do not have a large supply. In July of 2013 an article released that Obama policies helped the incline in gasoline prices. Experts say that it is difficult to put the blame on the president but the data shows that the increase has been during the time of Obama’s presidency. According to Climate Progress there are charts and data displayed that say Obama doesn’t set the gas prices. These data and charts suggest that if China and India stay demanding petroleum then our gasoline prices are most likely going to continue to stay hi.
One of the many things I’m learning this semester in my news photography class is that when it comes to capturing a picture, sometimes it’s all in the angle of the picture. Taking a picture at an angle puts a different spin on things. An angle allows you to see another side or another dimension of the object. Angles allow a different outlook of the subject and sometimes you can even capture different lightings and things. I’ve always enjoyed taking pictures but I didn’t know all the techniques and little details that went into making a good picture, a great picture.
Do you ever just get lost in music? For me, music is my safe zone, my getaway. Music is something that if you listen to it, you can get lost in the music and the words. There is always a song for every mood or feeling. Music has a way of drawing you in and sometimes you can find that song that will just go perfect with how you feel or a situation you are going through. I love music and I don’t know what I’d do without it. Music makes me happy, it’s fun and yet it’s calming. Music is a lifestyle and if you let it, it can consume you. One of my favorite Pandora stations is the John Mayer Pandora station. Whenever I am just in a mood or having one of those not so great days, the John Mayer station always has great relaxing and calming music. I love me some John Mayer music.
